Natural Resources: Fish, forests, gold, bauxite, phosphates, lead, zinc, and nickel. The Solomon Islands' most significant and actively exploited natural resources are its marine fisheries and timber forests, both of which form the backbone of the national economy. Tuna fishing remains a vital industry, supporting export revenues and rural livelihoods across the archipelago. Logging, though a major source of income, has raised ongoing sustainability concerns due to decades of overextraction. Mineral resources including gold, bauxite, phosphates, lead, zinc, and nickel are present across the islands, with gold mining representing the most developed extractive sector. Broader mineral development remains largely underexplored, offering potential for future economic diversification.
