Flag Symbolism
two equal vertical bands of white (hoist side) and red; in the upper hoist-side corner is a representation of the George Cross, edged in red
Flag History
The colors are those of the KNights of St. John of Jerusalem who ruled Malta from 1530 to 1798. In April 1942 King George VI of the United Kingdom awarded the islander the George cross for heroism in WWII. Since 1964 the George cross bordered in red has been placed directly on the white field of the flag.

    Maltese Rock Centaury

    The plant is endemic to the Maltese Islands. It is the only plant which has Palaeocyanus as its genus. It is quite commonly found in the limits of Wied Babu in Malta.
