People and Society of Dhekelia

Dhekelia is one of two Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) retained by the United Kingdom following Cyprus's independence in 1960. As a British Overseas Territory administered primarily as a military installation, Dhekelia does not maintain its own independently published demographic statistics, including life expectancy figures. The resident population is composed primarily of British military personnel, their families, and a number of local Cypriot civilians who live and work within the territory's boundaries.
