Svalbard Flag

Flag History

The colors red, white and blue were taken from the US flag, the UK flag and the French revolutionary Tricolore as at that time they were regarded as a symbol of freedom.

Flag Symbolism

The flag of Norway is used, red with a blue cross outlined in white that extends to the edges of the flag; the vertical part of the cross is shifted to the hoist side in the style of the Dannebrog (Danish flag)
