The Maltese diet often combines Italian and British foods. Breakfast ranges from toast, cereal, and tea to full fried breakfast. The majority of dishes are Mediterranean, with tomatoes, onion and garlic.
Bread is served at nearly every meal, and pasta dishes are served either as entree or main meal. Fish is on the menu frequently, including aljotta or fish chowder. Pastry is often filled with cheese and spinach as well as anchovies.
