Kyrgyzstan Flag

Flag History

The flag was adopted on 3 March 1992 at the 8th session of the Jogorku Kenesh (Parliament).

Authors of the flag: E. Aidarbekov, B. Jaichybekov, S. Iptarov, J. Mataev, E. Sydykov.

The word kyrgyz originally meant “red” and red has been the national color from the time immemorial.

Flag Symbolism

red field with a yellow sun in the center having 40 rays representing the 40 Kyrgyz tribes; on the obverse side the rays run counterclockwise, on the reverse, clockwise; in the center of the sun is a red ring crossed by two sets of three lines, a stylized representation of the roof of the traditional Kyrgyz yurt. The red background of the flag symbolizes bravery, the son represents peace and wealth, and the tyundyuk - signifies fatherland and the universe in general.
